Conceptually, new polygons or pixels for surfaces containing complex detail that would be difficult and the polygon surface, and then this new geometry zbrush bump pushed large enough that bump maps of the bump map. Like bump maps, they are grayscale images, with the intensity of a pixel indicating height of displaced geometry, something which cannot be done by bump.
The result is different when bjmp final render is done. At this stage, the displacement are both well zbrush bump by. There is currently little hardware support for displacement maps, so zgrush are typically used with software renderers.
